Family Health Centers Announces CEO Transition Bart Irwin to Retire; CFO Samuel Riddick Named Chief Executive Officer

Press Release

Family Health Centers (FHC) is announcing that Bart Irwin, Chief Executive Officer, will retire after decades of dedicated service to theorganization. The Board of Governors have named Samuel Riddick, currently Chief Financial Officer, as the next Chief Executive Officer, effective June 1, 2026. Irwin has served Family Health Centers for more than 33 years, including the last five years as CEO, guiding the organization through a period of significant growth, operational transformation, and extraordinary challenges.  “It has been an honor to serve our community at Family Health Centers and a great pleasure working with such a dedicated and talented group of individuals,” stated Irwin. “I am happy that I can pass the torch to Samuel Riddick,, who will do an amazing job as CEO”.

Under Irwin’s leadership, Family Health Centers expanded care through the addition of new program service lines for HIV prevention and treatment services, school-based care, and immediate care services. Irwin oversaw the strategic transformation of the West Market Health Center into a dedicated Behavioral Health Care Hub, increasing access to psychiatric services, medication-assisted treatment, counseling, and on-site pharmacy services in response to the growing community need.

In addition to clinical expansion, Irwin championed pharmacy access as a core strategy for affordability and sustainability, including the opening of new pharmacies,, helping address pharmacy deserts caused by widespread retail closures. He also played a central role in advancing essential capital initiatives, including the Family Health Centers–Americana expansion and working closely with the city of Louisville to support the Phoenix Health Care for the Homeless and Medical Respite program, ensuring continuity of care for individuals experiencing homelessness.

“Bart’s leadership has left an indelible mark on Family Health Centers,” said Mike Funk, Chairman of the Board of Governors. “His steady guidance, levity, and unwavering dedication to our mission have positioned the organization for long-term success.”

Samuel Riddick brings over a decade of experience at Family Health Centers to the CEO role, having served as Chief Financial Officer since 2014. During his tenure, Riddick has overseen financial strategy, compliance, revenue cycle management, and long-term sustainability initiatives, helping strengthen the organization’s fiscal foundation while supporting service expansion across Louisville Metro. He has played a central role in aligning financial performance with mission-driven care delivery.   In addition to financial stewardship, Riddick has been closely involved in organizational strategy, operational integration, and major system-wide initiatives supporting growth and access.

“I am honored by the Board’s confidence and grateful for the opportunity to build on the strong foundation Bart has established,” said Riddick. “Family Health Centers has a proud history rooted in community and access. I look forward to working alongside our staff, Board, and partners to continue advancing that mission. As we look ahead, my focus will be on strengthening our workforce, expanding access to high-quality, integrated care, and ensuring long-term sustainability for the communities we serve.”

The transition plan includes a deliberate overlap period to ensure continuity of leadership, organizational stability, and a smooth handoff. Irwin will remain CEO through May 31, 2026, supporting the transition before formally retiring.
