Family Health Centers to Host Breast Cancer Awareness Event: Promoting Early Detection and Mammogram Screenings

Press Release

Louisville, KY, May 21, 2026– Family Health Centers – Portland, in partnership with the Kentucky Women’s Screening Program, will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Event on June 11 focused on education, prevention, and the importance of early detection.

The event is inspired by the personal story of Brittany Receveur, MSSW, CSW, Director of Population Health and Quality Improvement at Family Health Centers, whose mother, Tammy, was first diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 40. After successfully overcoming cancer and remaining cancer-free for 19 years, Tammy’s breast cancer returned aggressively at the age of 59. She passed away on October 2, 2023, after a courageous year-long battle.

“My mom was always proactive with her health, and because she was screened early, our family was blessed with 19 more healthy years with her,” said Receveur. “After losing her, I became even more motivated to help women prioritize screenings and early detection so other families do not have to experience the same heartbreak.”

Community members are invited to attend the event to enjoy pink lemonade, learn more about breast cancer prevention and early detection, and receive assistance scheduling mammograms.

The event aims to encourage women to prioritize routine screenings and understand the life-saving impact of early detection.
