Louisville, KY, May 6, 2026—
.
Founded in 1976 as part of the national Community Health Center movement, Family Health Centers has expanded from a single safety-net clinic into a comprehensive network of medical, dental, behavioral health, and supportive services. Today, FHC serves tens of thousands of individuals and families each year across Louisville.
To celebrate this milestone, Family Health Centers invites patients, current and former staff, community partners, elected leaders, donors, and longtime supporters to share personal stories and memories. Generation after generation has received care from our providers, and we would love to spotlight this over the coming months.
“These last 50 years were not built by buildings or programs alone; people built them,” said Melissa Noyes Mather, Chief Communications Officer at Family Health Centers. “We are creating a multimedia archive to preserve the voices, experiences, and moments that define who we are as a community health center. We want our community to help tell that story.”
The Family Health Centers’ 50th Anniversary Multimedia archive will collect written reflections, photographs, videos, and oral histories that highlight the impact of accessible health care, the evolution of community-based services, and the personal relationships that have shaped our work over five decades. Selected stories may be featured on the organization’s website, social media, anniversary publications, and community events throughout 2026.
Community members are encouraged to submit stories that reflect:
Experiences receiving or providing care
Memories of early clinic locations or milestones
Reflections on how Family Health Centers has impacted families or neighborhoods
Recognition of staff, providers, or programs
Stories may be submitted online at www.fhclouisville.org/50years and can be shared in any language. Submissions may be brief and do not require professional writing or documentation.
Family Health Centers will celebrate its 50th Anniversary throughout 2026 with community events, storytelling initiatives, staff and patient recognition activities, and historical reflections honoring the organization’s legacy and future.
“For 50 years, our mission has remained the same, to provide high-quality care without regard to the ability to pay,” Mather added. “As we look ahead to the next chapter, we want to make sure the voices of our community are at the center of this celebration.”
