Board of Governors

General Information; Term of Office

The administrative authority for the operation of FHC is provided by a 15-member voluntary Board of Governors. A unique feature of FHC’s Board of Governors is that a majority of its members (8) are either patients or clients who are current users of FHC’s services. The remaining members serve as constituent representatives for the different communities in which FHC operates a Health Center. These individuals are selected for their expertise in health care, community affairs, local government, banking and finance, legal affairs, social services, trade unions and other commercial and industrial concerns.

In order to maintain a dynamic membership, recruitment for the Board of Governors is ongoing. The Term of Office for members of the Board of Governors is three (3) years. Term limitations for Board Members and Officers are reviewed by the Nominating and Board Relations Committee at least once every three (3) years. Appointments to vacant positions are made for the remainder of the unexpired term of the member whose seat has been vacated. The election of Officers takes place annually at the July meeting.

Board Members are required to attend two (2) meetings each month – a regular monthly Board meeting, and one (1) standing committee meeting. Full Board meetings are typically scheduled on the fourth Monday of each month. The following are FHC’s standing Board Committees and their

In addition to monthly meetings, Board Members are also expected to participate in at least one annual Strategic Planning/Training Board Retreat.

Excellent training is provided to Board Members in a number of interesting venues. The National Association of Community Health Centers provides workshops and “Boot Camps” for new board members at annual meetings and conferences. The Kentucky Primary Care Association also sponsors periodic specialized trainings.
