About Us

Family Health Centers, Inc. (FHC) is a non-profit corporation, established by the Louisville-Jefferson County Board of Health in 1976, to assure that residents of the Louisville Metro area have access to high quality primary and preventive health services, regardless of ability-to-pay. Services are provided to more than 43,000 patients annually, through seven Family Health Centers sites.

FHC provides comprehensive primary and preventive health services including: physician, nurse practitioner, dental, nurse, lab, x-ray, pharmacy, obstetrics, child and adult medicine as well as specialty and inpatient referral and follow-up.  The medical staff includes more than 40 physicians and nurse practitioners who specialize in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Additional services include behavioral health, health education, case management services and transportation assistance. Interpretive services are provided to non-English speaking patients, and many materials are translated into foreign languages.

FHC bills Passport, Medicaid and Medicare as well as private insurance for patients with coverage.  Patients who are not covered by public or private insurance will be charged on a Sliding Fee Scale which takes into account the family’s size and income level.

FHC relies on funding from the federal Community Health Centers and Health Care for the Homeless programs and from Louisville Metro government to help cover the cost of services provided to the uninsured.

FHC is a member of the National Association of Community Health Centers, the Kentucky Primary Care Association and the Louisville Primary Care Association. FHC’s clinics and laboratories are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Continuously accredited since 1979, FHC is the second longest JCAHO-accredited Community Health Center in the nation

Welcome to National Health Center Week ...

The second week of August each year is dedicated to recognizing the service and contributions of Community, Migrant, Homeless and Public Housing Health Centers in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people in the U.S. This year's commemoration is special because 2010 also marks the 45th Anniversary of the creation of the Health Centers Program.
